"It was from this mask that Shendu drew the power to control his Shadowkhan army, and through which Daolon Wong's magic channeled that very same power." |
Rairakku's Mask is the Oni Mask that imprisoned the spirit of the eponymous Oni General, Rairakku. This mask was worn by Chow during the search for the Oni Masks.
Origin[]
Centuries ago in Ancient Japan, the spirits of Tarakudo's nine Oni Generals were imprisoned in the Oni Masks by Good Chi Wizards. To prevent them from ever being conjoined, the nine masks were subsequently scattered to the four corners of the globe. This particular mask was used to imprison Rairakku, the Oni General of the Ninja Khan.
History[]
At some point, Rairakku's Mask was discovered and obtained by Shendu, who used it to summon the Ninja Khan. Shendu employed a means of drawing power from the mask without having to wear it, effectively keeping it from possessing him. The Demon Sorcerer kept the mask inside a chest within his palace near Hong Kong, China.
After Daolon Wong and the Enforcers had been incarcerated following the quest to find the Noble Animals, the Dark Chi Wizard attempted to summon the Shadowkhan to break them out of prison. Rather than summoning the Shadowkhan, however, Wong's spell inadvertently awakened Tarakudo himself, the King of the Shadowkhan. Seeking to reclaim his Shadowkhan warriors, Tarakudo recruited the Enforcers to help him find the Oni Masks.
Bringing them to the ruins of Shendu's Palace, Tarakudo presented the Enforcers with Rairakku's Mask. After explaining that both Shendu and Daolon Wong had previously tapped into the mask's power in order to summon the Ninja Khan, Tarakudo selected Hak Foo to "see how it fits". Having arrived to confront Tarakudo along with Jade, Uncle and Tohru, Jackie Chan snatched the mask from Hak Foo before he had the chance to wear it and a two-way fight over the mask ensued. Amidst the resulting scuffle, however, the mask was inadvertently placed on Chow's face, much to Hak Foo's disappointment. Tarakudo allowed Chow to acquaint himself with his newfound abilities before leaving with the remaining Enforcers.
Upon demonstrating his enhanced strength against Jackie, Chow proceeded to summon an army of Ninja Khan to deal with the Chans. Amidst the ensuing fight, Uncle inferred that the only way to defeat Chow and his Shadowkhan was by performing a mask removal spell before instructing Jackie to keep Chow busy long enough for him to determine the spell's key ingredient. After uncovering a set of Japanese inscriptions detailing the defeat of the Oni in ancient times, Tohru determined that the mask removal ingredient was Japanese steel. When Uncle argued that Shendu was Chinese and would therefore not possess Japanese steel in his palace, Jade thought to locate and retrieve a Shadowkhan's shuriken freshly embedded in a wall, deducing that since the Shadowkhan were Japanese, so must their weapons be as well.
Whilst attempting to hold his own against Chow, Jackie proved little to no challenge and was easily bested in single combat. Before Chow could finish him off, however, the others arrived with the mask removal spell prepared and ready before casting it on Jackie, effectively allowing him to pull the mask from Chow's face, causing the Shadowkhan to evaporate and disappear, prompting Chow himself to flee the scene in terror.
Hoping to discover a lead to the location of the next Oni Mask, Jackie and the others subsequently ventured to Tokyo, Japan. Rairakku's Mask was meanwhile sent to Section 13 attached with a note to Captain Black, urging him to lock it in the vault immediately whilst stressing not to allow anyone to wear it.
