Dragons are reptilian, magical creatures from various folklores around the world. The dragons seen in the show are a mixture of the Chinese and European styles, with various features from both mythologies mingled; such as serpentine bodies, whiskers and fins from Chinese tradition; but they also have wings, horns, an association with the fire element, and the evil alignment that most, though not all, dragons of European tradition possess. All of the dragons shown have glowing red eyes in the style of Demon Sorcerers, including those that are not. This may simply be a biological trait. They also all have the ability to fly and breathe fire.

At some point in the past, a dragon was one of the 12 Noble Animals. Shendu than coveted its power of combustion for himself and Shendu stole the power for the Dragon Talisman.

Dragon body parts, such as dragon teeth can be powerful spell ingredients, and can only be destroyed with magic.

-It is not clear whether or not the dragons can breathe fire. [[Shendu]], the demon of fire and a dragon, can indeed breathe fire, and generate fire from any part of his body. In Day of the Dragon and the two Demon World episodes, the dragons cannot(or at least chose not to) breathe fire. In J2, [[Drago]] is seen destroying [[Section 13]] with dragons that breathe fire. However, the Dragon [[Talismans|Talisman]] grants the power of combustion; it is therefore implied that this is a special power that dragons don't have. For example, a rat cannot give motion to the motionless, a horse cannot heal, a dog does not have immortality, so why should a dragon be able to breathe fire? In season 3, the talisman powers went into noble animals. If a dragon (other than Shendu) were to get a power he already had, that would kind of be a gyp. Since Shendu is the Demon Sorcerer of fire, and has been seen with firery breath without the talisman, it is likely that the Dragon Talisman enhances Shendu's natural firepower.
