"Dai Gui does not like pretty!"
— Dai Gui expressing his disgust for flowers

Dai Gui is a Demon Sorcerer - specifically the Earth Demon - and one of Shendu's seven siblings who were trapped in the Netherworld, making him one of the Demon Portals story arc antagonists of Season 2.

Appearance[]

Dai Gui is a powerfully built, hulking figure with a predominantly reddish-brown body, reminiscent of a Minotaur's robust physique, suggesting immense strength and an earthy connection. He possesses a reptilian green head with menacing features and prominent, curved golden horns, hinting at a bull-like or demonic lineage. His minimal attire includes dark green shorts and golden, patterned adornments on his shoulders, wrists, and ankles, emphasizing his raw and brutish yet ancient appearance.

Personality[]

Dai Gui is a brutish and single-minded demon, often portrayed as the least intelligent of his siblings. Despite his low intellect, he shows a crude cleverness in combat, such as using the earth to hide and trip opponents or throwing large rocks. He seems to be either unaware of his own stupidity or tries to compensate for it by asserting his authority, even bossing around his more intelligent siblings. He has a guttural, deep voice and speaks in short, simple sentences, often referring to himself in the third person.

Dai Gui enjoys doing the "dirty work" himself, using his earth-bending powers to cause destruction. He is completely apathetic to human life and seems to enjoy fighting, even attempting to peel the armor off of Jackie Chan's body and comparing him to a worm. He claims to hate "pretty" things, especially flowers, which were used to banish him. He harbors a deep hatred for his brother Shendu, who left the other demons trapped in the Netherworld for centuries.

History[]

Background[]

Alongside his seven siblings, Dai Gui terrorised the world during ancient times (described by Tohru in "Relics of Demon Past" as "thousands of years ago"), until one-by-one he and his brethren were defeated and banished to the Netherworld by the Eight Immortals, where all except Shendu (who apparently escaped and left the other Demon Sorcerers behind) remained trapped. Dai Gui's Demon Portal was located in a rural area of Pamplona, Spain; at the site of a rotting and overgrown abandoned house by the present day.

Season 2[]

Dai Gui was the fifth Demon Sorcerer to be unleashed. Immediately upon release, he desired to submerge his new kingdom into the depths of the earth, a task he took upon himself as Shendu then moved onto freeing his other brothers and sisters. Dai Gui then came into contact with Jackie Chan who grasped onto his horns as he was burrowing. Having been informed about Jackie's meddling from his siblings, Dai Gui attempted to destroy him, but found it difficult when Chan equipped the armor of the immortals. Dai Gui was unable to be banished until Uncle awoke from a magic-induced slumber, revealing the final ingredient necessary to banish him. Jade initially tried to banish him when Uncle was asleep, but to no avail as she confused "hair of ewe" with "hair of you".

He was one of the final four to challenge the J-Team, and battled Tohru. He was banished, but his Chi surfaced inside of a flower.

Season 5[]

Jackie absorbed the Chi in order to do battle with a Moon-powered Drago. His was removed from Jackie just after Uncle places the Moon Chi in the Containment Unit.

It was later absorbed by Larry when it left the containment unit due to an earthquake and was later absorbed by Drago along with the seven other demon chi, sprouting some horns. Traces of it was later placed into StrikeMaster Ice when Drago sent him to destroy Section 13.

Powers and Abilities[]

Dai Gui's primary ability is geokinesis, which gives him control over earth, rock, and other minerals. By simply gesturing, he can:

* Lift and throw boulders.

* Create and close large cracks in the ground.

* Form massive rock columns from the earth.

He also uses this power to burrow underground, creating tunnels to travel quickly and avoid danger.

In addition to his elemental power, Dai Gui has immense physical strength due to his massive size, a trait that was transferred to Jackie Chan and Larry when they absorbed his chi.

Trivia[]

  • When the Demon Sorcerers cast a spell on Shendu, the beam of the spell emitted from Dai Gui's horns opposed to his arms.
  • Dai Gui's hatred for the very same Immortal symbol which banished him is a trait he shares with Hsi Wu - whether either or both of them hate their respective symbols because of their banishments, or have always felt that way about them, is unknown.
  • Those that have possessed Dai Gui's chi have made more use of his earth-manipulating powers than Dai Gui himself has during any of his appearances. Dai Gui appears to prefer using brute strength and burrowing over manipulating his environment.
