"According to legend, anyone who gets scratched by claw of statue..." |
The Cat of Khartoum is an ancient artifact of North African origin. It has the power to turn anyone it scratches into a cat-human hybrid.
History[]
Jackie found the statue within a palace outside Tangiers in Morocco, but Valmont and his Enforcers had been searching for it as well. In the ensuing fight, Valmont accidentally scratched himself on the statue's claw, discovering shortly after that his balance has been greatly improved and can leap great distances, eventually deducing that the statue has transformed him into a part man, part cat. Content with this revelation, he resolved to use his newfound abilities to further his criminal activities.
After being captured by local gangster Cardiff Zendo, Jade was forced to steal the statue from Valmont (who had negated on his deal to secure the statue for Zendo) in exchange for Jackie's freedom after he'd been tossed in a cell by Zendo's thugs. Jade was successful in retrieving the statue, although she did get scratched by its claw in the process.
At Jackie's request, Uncle had been researching into the Cat's legend, revealing only that "the antidote to the cat curse lies within", to both his and Jackie's puzzlement.
After reclaiming the statue from Zendo, Jackie had an epiphany, deciding that the Cat was too dangerous to be kept in a museum and so smashed it against the ground, causing it to release a purple vapor upon impact that cured both Valmont and Jade of the curse, thus restoring them back to normal. It was at this moment Jackie realized that “The antidote lies within” meant that the antidote was inside the statue itself.
